My new commission piece, "From the Sea" will be premiered by high school flute quartet. The idea of this piece is based on Japanese mythology. It describes that everything was originate from the sea. When, the sun was mad at the misbehavior of her brother, she hid herself, which made the world filled with darkness. All the other gods were extremely worried and tried to bring her back, but nothing worked. Then, one goddess started to dance, which was crazy and funny, so that the other gods burst into laughter. The sun was anxious to know what was happening outside and finally appeared in sight. That is how we were out of darkness. This particular scene of the goddess dancing was the inspiration and stayed in my mind while composing.
